No, that’s not a typo and no, I’m not dyslexic. While in fact I did just return from a month in the EU, I’m reporting on the state of the Unapologetically Evie, The UE, not the state of the European Union. And yes, I did just refer to myself in the third-person, as The Unapologetically Evie - sheesh, is there no end to my arrogance? Considering it’s been a month since we last spoke and my time away was more like the time a lizard spends in a dark cavern in order to shed its skin than a vacation, I figured an update is in order.

My trip changed me, like viscerally changed me. I’ve been hesitant to share many details because like all of the most meaningful human experiences, words only diminish the value. Plus, it would be impossible not to sound cliche’ or trite if I attempted to explain the ways in which the past month affected me, so I won’t. Instead I will show you. This will take time, so for now I need to explain some things that will change within my writings here on Substack.

The Sunday Snewz is back but it will be different. I’m different so how can it not be? I realized during my time away that I have much greater peace of mind when I’m not connected to world events on the daily. Nor is it necessary for me to scour news articles, social media or YouTube everyday to be informed. Doing so only makes me crazy….and angry….and unproductive…and quick to judge….and less of the person I want to be. Honestly, before leaving for my trip, I found myself dreading the task of writing this publication - a publication I only recently started and with cheerleader level enthusiasm. But nothing seemed particularly note worthy or worth my time. I had grown tired of hearing my own words and even more exhausted of the redundancy I found everywhere. Our President is a demented, corrupt, inept pervert, our medical system is broken beyond repair and health agencies have been captured and therefore cannot be trusted. Young people are dropping dead from cardiac issues related to the Covid vaccine and the rest are gender confused, isolated, suicidal or all of the above. The majority of people are fat, Bill Gates wants us all to eat fake meat, the WEF wants us to eat bugs, Zelensky is busy with photo-ops while Ukrainians are dying, Americans can’t afford eggs, nobody can afford to buy a house, The Donald is a clear victim of political persecution but is also not a viable solution for healing our country. The right hates the left, the left hates the right and themselves, race relations aren’t an issue if you speak to real people but the only issue according to the media. We are most certainly on a direct path towards a Totalitarian end of civilization and the only real unknown is when and how that will happen. Maybe Putin will get desperate enough to end it all sooner than later or maybe we will have a few more generations of weak men to crumble what strong men once built. Who knows?

What I do know is I’m not going to waste whatever time I have left on reporting on it. This leaves me with quite a conundrum. How do I write a satirical publication about the news if I’m not willing to read the news? I wasn’t sure until just two days ago, when I stepped out of the shower after spending my morning writing in my journal. Who says the news has to come solely from the news? What if I mine my journal for news, instead of the bowels of mass media? My journal is a wealth of laughs, quirks, deep thinking, self deprecation and outrageous ideas. It covers all the hot topics like physical and mental health, politics, arts and culture, travel, sex, sports on occasion and best of all, me. Much more interesting and much less predictable than what’s going on in the world right now. Of course I will still read my stand-by news sources on health, politics and timely issues like the climate, homelessness, RFK Jr. and Justin Trudeau’s hair but I won’t subject myself to the pernicious pit of Twitter aka X or the necessary scrolling on Instagram and I won’t repeat the same tired stories for you.

So what will this look like? For you, the reader or listener I (which I recommend listening for this publication) my hope is the experience is an upgrade. If we’re being entirely honest, my writing had an underlying sense of cynicism and anger. I don’t like that and I would bet neither do you. So let’s have some fun instead.

Welcome to the new and improved Sunday Snewz…news that just might make you a better person.

Triple Threat

When Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat, Pray, Love described her go-to masturbation fantasy as that of Bill Clinton, I nearly stopped reading the book. A Democrat-yuck! Yet here I am - RFK Jr. Not my first attraction to a 69 year old man (I grew up fatherless, what do you expect?) but a Democrat? But the grey, the muscles, the bad boy gone good recovered addict…I mean come on!

Are Carbs Really Your Enemy?

I spent the past month eating chocolate croissants for breakfast, pasta for lunch and either pizza or more pasta for dinner, followed by dessert 9 out of 10 nights. And ya know what - I didn’t gain a single pound! I also rid myself of the chronic pain in my hip and the strange skin irritation on my head. How is this possible?

Scarlett at our favorite pizza spot in Florence. Husband cooked the pizzas and the wife hosted the guests.

I’m working on a piece regarding food quality in countries like Italy versus the U.S. and how our obsession with making nutrition so complicated is actually destroying our health. The Harm of Health Lies

On my return to U.S. I noticed more people wearing masks in airports than a few weeks earlier on my way out of the country. Granted it was Seattle, where mask wearing is a sign of superior character, but I took this route on the way and didn’t see this many bandits. What changed in those few weeks? I didn’t know there was a new Covid scare circulating because I had completely removed news from my life for the month. My 82 year old mother picked us up from the airport and promptly asked if we saw how they are pushing Covid nonsense again? Claiming there are two new variants and masking should be put back in place. I explained to her that in fact, there are two new variants but they are less harmful than a common cold. Facts are gathered by turning to my most reliable health professional, Dr. Peter McCullough.

This is the trouble with all of the lies we have been told. We never know what to believe and this is a catastrophic place to be with our health professionals. What happens if we have a real health emergency? People won’t know who to trust and therefore won’t trust anyone.

I turned on the TV this week, for the first time since summer began and came across a documentary on longevity. It was useful in researching for the article I’m working on that I mentioned above and it’s definitely worth a watch on a rainy afternoon.

Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones

Ultimately it proved me right (a regular occurrance) - we are making things much too complicated.

There is a keen difference between being ignorant of the chaos around us and being selective about what we let into our minds. Chronic exposure to stressful events we have no ability to solve is a recipe for premature death at worst, and a waste of time at best. Our current lifestyle of being connected to devices all day everyday is bringing undo stressors into our lives. Don’t let that happen. The best thing you can do to help get us out of the mess our world is in is to be a better version of yourself.
