Sometimes It's Just Too Much
Find stillness and be receptive.
I woke up early on Sunday to do my prayers, meditate and write before the rest of my house came to life. After enjoying the stillness, I shuffled over to my office to write a daily meditation. This year I committed to writing a meditation each day, based upon what I am reading and listening to. I have forever planned to write a 365 Daily Reader but have failed to carve out the time to accomplish it thus far. I finally got smart and decided to tackle it the way in which I tackle most every project in my life - small, manageable amounts of work each and every day. At the end of 2023, with writing one day each day, I will have completed the writing of an entire Daily Reader. It will be the accompaniment to my book, You Matter, To Everyone Yet To No one. You Matter EveryDay.
Remember, small tasks, done consistently lead to big results.
Anyway, after finishing up the short writing, I opened Twitter to find the hellacious video of Tyre Nichols being beaten to death by five police officers. Because I am a human who hasn’t lost touch with humanity, race, politics, BLM, #defundthepolice, the Obamas, Ben Shapiro or CNN didn’t enter my mind. What flooded my conscience was the harsh reality that we can now wake up and open our computers to witness someone being murdered.
In one week’s time I saw a man get smashed in the head by a hammer, saw a pedophile telling people on snapchat, “I’m going to fuck my son tonight,” and witnessed a horrific beating that led to a man’s death. All without leaving the comfort of my office. What is happening?
