Here is the replay of the March Monthly Moments Live Stream, where we kick-off the ten steps of doing less to become more. We will continue this discussion for the remainder of 2023, with a new step revealed each month.
Show Notes:
Active seeking vs. active receptivity. How to prepare yourself to receive answers instead of endless seeking.
Quote from William Wordsworth: “It is as if effort opens the window of the soul but the explicit intention obscures the sight. The vision comes because of effort made and then relax. Despite the effort, it only comes when unsought.”
Bridging the gap between the intellectual world and the practical understanding.
If we want to experience lasting change and betterment, we need to change our entire mindset. Lasting change does not occur from a list of action steps but rather a complete transformation of the mind. Example of Buddhism or Catholicism - the actions alone do not transform you.
Step One: Be Interested in the Dark.
Darkness and suffering in my own life - the death of my first born daughter.
Shared suffering allows for new joy and beauty. Without the darkness there is no light. The necessity of opposites.
Modern examples of lacking meaning in life leads to the irrational fear of death.
William Blake’s level of suffering. The example in my friend’s current battle with brain cancer.
Darkness within - understanding it will bring you to new light.
Looking AT darkness and suffering versus looking THROUGH it. Looking at a window instead of looking through it.
Integrating darkness and suffering. The difference between voyeuristic and integrating suffering. The detrimental effects of viewing excessive suffering online and through a computer screen and the necessity of sharing darkness face to face.
Take aways:
Spend time in active receptivity.
Look how you perceive darkness. Do you see the power of light through darkness?
Learn from the darkness within you.
