Silence is the same as a lie, when you have something to say.
There are two distinct sorts of untruths, lies of omission and lies of commission. The lies of commission are a lot easier to avoid. Very few of us go about our days, purposely lying. Unless you are a complete sociopath, you aren't particularly comfortable lying to people. It just doesn't feel good in the soul.
But, lies of omission are sneaky. Often times, we don't even realize we are committing them and when we do, we seem to justify it by claiming we don't want to make others uncomfortable, or we're sparing someone's feelings. We also claim that staying quiet will make life easier on us in the short-term and who really cares about the long-term anymore, right?
Failing to speak up when you know something is wrong, or when you are questioning what you are hearing, is a lie, plain and simple. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise.
Not only is silence a lie, but it's cowardice. It isn't easy to be the only person in the room with their hand up in objection. It's uncomfortable to look someone in the eyes and question what they are telling you. It's quite a lonely place to be, I know this far too well.
But you know what is even worse, looking in the mirror knowing you are a liar. Be brave. Speak the truth.
