An honest person will not mind being questioned. Are you sure you're honest?
If I am taken aback by anything these days, it would be the lack of questioning and independent, intelligent thinking I see in the world. I'm not just talking about Covid, I'm talking about nearly everything, including what we accept within our own narratives.
If you were asked to "explain to me why you believe...", how would you answer that? Explain to me why you believe eating meat is better than a strictly vegetarian diet. Explain to me why you believe God does or does not exist. Explain to me why you see race or sex as the defining attribute by which we should view one another. Explain to me why you believe humans are or are not doing irreparable damage to the earth? Explain to me why you believe the new vaccine does or does not work.
The only rule is you cannot make your argument by means of pointing out why someone who believes differently than you is wrong.
Can you defend and justify your beliefs when questioned? I'm not asking for you to answer these questions here and now. But, I would encourage you to apply this principle before you tout your supposedly educated opinions. My guess is if you had to engage in a civil debate with someone who is considered an expert on a given topic, you would probably dig a little deeper into the subject, if for no other reason than to avoid humiliating yourself.
Before you convince yourself what you believe, ask yourself why you believe it? You should be able to make a sound argument to yourself before trying to persuade others to think the way you do. The trouble we encounter most these days is people trying to convince others they are correct, instead of actually knowing if what they believe is the truth.
Do you really know why you believe what you claim to believe? If you're honest, you won't mind being questioned.
Let the questioning begin!
